Tech 2 Evaluation
Desmos: Online Graphing Calculator
Likes:
- You can do virtually anything in Desmos's graphic calculator if you know your algebra and your math.

- It has an easy use calculator interface (entering various equations).
- You have access to a bunch of other's people's creations.
Dislikes:
- The page assumes you already know a lot of your math, and maybe with many of the tools, you can only use them if you have a lot of background knowledge.
-The instructional math videos aren't as clear as many people would wish.
-The colour interface to change the lines' colour is hard to find.\
Uses:
I could use it to do my math homework and graph parabolas.
I could use it to investigate different quadratic properties of lines.

Advantages:
-It is very simple and easy to use! You just put a question in, write the options down, and submit!
-It allows an easy access to the poll for people (tablets, phones), and a private access to your question.
-You can share it on Facebook, twitter, and many other places.
Drawbacks:
-The template options are very limited, only 2, so it is not very flexible.
- The code might take a while to implement in a meeting (the projected audience), and it might be impractical.
- The only 1 question option limits the surveys to extreme simplicity, and you would have to spend a lot of time answering a big survey.

11. I learned that a lot of students take big hard colleges for granted. However they don't realize the amount of effort it takes to get into a really good school. I think after reading this I will put a lot more effort into big grades and summative assignments. As well I will get involved in more extra curricular activities.

Google Day 4
Goals:
1. Create my website on wordpress.com
This is getting really hard because I just found out I can't have google ad-sense on a free wordpress.COM site, I downloaded a wordpress.ORG platform to be able to have adsense.
I couldn't install wordpress properly.
2. Transfer the DNS over to google to create it on blogger!
(the process is complicated! Ehow helps though)
I Don't know as of now, and couldn't make it.
3. I waited one hour for the DNS to load and update..... FML nothing happened. Switch subjects maybe?
Next Class I'll prepare my presentation.

3. Buy Hosting (at home, with permission)

Google Day 2
Goals:
1. To watch a 20 minute tutorial about Google Adsense:
Tutorial Part 1
The first video focuses on how to sign up for Google adsense, how to get Google to approve your website, and how to use the tools Google gives you to make money.
While watching this video I learned how to personalize the ads to attract more clicks, and how to blend in the ads with the website more effectively (Ad placement, Ad colour, etc.)
Tutorial Part 2
In this part of the tutorial I learned:
-How to create add channels to track the progress of different groups of ads.
-How to obtain the html code for your ad to embed on your website.
-How to avoid putting your competition's adds on your page.
2. To learn how to do SEO (Search Engine Optimization)
Quick (Slow) SEO Guide
.Video on SEO
Of what I got to read from this guide, and what I got to watch from this video, SEO is all about making a clear-cut, easy to use website that satisfies customers. By putting in clear titles, organized links and USEFUL CONTENT the search engines will recognize this and rank you up!
Important: the usage of keywords in your title, content, link, etc.
Use back links (still have to find out what they are). That is when your website is linked in other bigger websites. I haven't understood yet how to do this.
3. I have to convince my mom of paying around 15 dollars to get me a domain, and hosting for the website.

Digital Nation
1. I agree that Internet lets people do crazy things because Internet provides anonymity which can be a great haven for certain kinds of behavior.
2. I agree that Internet is a great tool that permits people to communicate better, because it permits us to send messages and share information. on an almost real time basis.
3. I disagree with that technology brings families apart because you can learn to reach a certain balance with the digital world. As well families can learn to take advantage of these tools to create family activities (e.g fifa night.
4. I agree that multitasking has become important to the world of today because on that real time interaction, you need to be paying attention to multiple things to be able to do all that you want to do.
5. I disagree with NASA when they say people are bad multi-taskers because it is obvious that one would have to divide ones attention while multitasking, and one would be slower at each thing while doing multiple things.
6. I agree that the amount of time on the internet affects how the brain develops, because you think differently when on a computer, or another tech device than when you are "disconnected".
7. I disagree with that it is bad that young people are immersed too much into technology because as the world evolves a greater part of life is going to be spend on electronic devices that are necessary in today's globalized environment. It is a better learning experience.
8. I disagree with that games kill kids because it is obvious that doing any activity 50 hours straight can kill you. (duh)
9. I disagree the negative connotation they give to internet addiction, it is like blaming cigarettes for their addictive property, no one is forcing them to play 9 or 10 hours straight.
10. I agree with that kids have a greater capacity of assimilating new technologies because we have been thrust into the internet era from birth.
11. I agree that with that a proper education of proper internet usage, internet can be properly used by kids because the cases in which kids are addicted, or use the internet improperly are the ones that did not have a proper formation within the internet.
12. I agree that Internet is an excellent platform to build and create because there are a variety of tools that facilitate projects and different types of media.
13. I agree that technology is a good way to release violence because in stead of hurting someone, it is equally relieving to kill somebody on CoD.
14. I agree that on the internet there is a wider range of distractions because there are too many pages and temptations to stay on only one page.
15. I agree that jobs 5 years from now need completely different skills than the ones 5 years ago because the world is ever changing; however, the internet prepares us almost unconsciously with those skills.
16. I agree with that there is a temptation of reading summaries online because the internet takes up a bigger portion of time, there is less time and concentration to read books.
17. I agree that in a technological world such as today's education needs to be modified to meet the needs of technology because different worlds require different skills.
18. I agree that internet has taken over the necessity of memorizing big chunks of information, because there is no need for memorization anymore, so is it really important that we have lost the skill?
19. I agree that you can have an entire other personality on the internet, with different games, interactions and anonymity, you can be whoever.
20. I agree that it is a lot easier to spend time with your friends on the internet because it is a lot faster, easier to coordinate, and requires less effort.

How Do I Write a Good Resume?

What I Learned:
To write a good resume, there are a lot of things you have to take into account. A lot of details factor when you are applying to a job. There are small details such as the font you choose, the margins you choose, the colour you use, etc. (Black font, white back, 1 inch margins, Times New Roman, 16.) Writing a resume adapts to your field, your personality, and your skills. There are many ways to write a resume, organizing your skills, your education, and your employment history in different formats.
There are a lot of different tricks to make your "interviewer" want to hire you more. For example, putting your greater accomplishments at the top of the page will draw attention to them. Emphasize on what you can do for the company, and highlight your skills.Include only relevant information and make sure to read the job description to include only important information!
Viruses
I wonder:
- How do viruses work, how do they hack into the computer?
- How do you create basic bugs and viruses?
What I learned:
- Viruses are very powerful, a virus called the Mydoom worm infected 250,000 computers in one day, the Storm virus infected 50 million people.
- A virus is a program that "piggybacks" on another REAL program, and can jump from program to program.
- There are viruses that "reproduce by sending infected e-mails to all of the people on your contact book.
-A Trojan horse is a virus that says it is something (e.g. a game) but is really a harmful program.
- Virus work through security loopholes in programming to reproduce, it can't reproduce by itself.
How it connects to my life:
-Knowing about viruses can help me know more about how to protect my computer, and myself from the different types of bugs.

Google 20%
For my Google 20% project I would like to learn how to make money through the internet, specializing on YouTube and Websites. How to monetize the internet and turn it into a business. As well, I am very interested in podcasting, and according to Ms.Shawn, I have some strong opinions that might interest people. As well I am interested in app programing (basic) and video editing.
For my final project, Mateo and I will have a Website with a targeted AdSense, and intended traffic, in which we will have video tutorials for the things we learn (we'll be youtube partners), all the while we'll be making a podcast with randomn topics. We will also design a basic app to make our website more complete.
